Discover the New York City of the American Revolution! After defeating the British in the Siege of Boston, General George Washington marched the Continental Army down to New York to defend the strategic port city. The next time Washington's forces clashed with the British Navy would be the first major battle of the American Revolutionary War. Known as the Battle of Long Island, the attack was the largest battle of the entire conflict and took place fully in what is now the borough of Brooklyn.
