A quick stop in an antique shop in Long Beach, Washington led me to this funky orange necklace made of carved Bakelite beads. It spoke to me and although I doubted I'd ever wear it "as is" I felt the beads would some day find places in my jewelry.
Bakelite was often used to imitate coral. Althought it was clear to me these weren't coral, I did do the hot water test to make sure they were bakelite. Confirmed!
I love the way the Austrian crystals sparkle and counter the matte finish of the coral colored beads in these 1.5 inch earrings. Funky fun for jeans day... or worn with that little black dress.
