Hand painted novelty yarn 50g dark blue stormy slate
The base yarn for this is a skein of fun novelty yarn, 40% wool, 25% acrylic, 20% polyamide and 15% lurex. The yarn is beautifully soft and squishy. It is double stranded (see photo against 1 inch measure for accurate gauge).
I hand painted it in two stages, knowing that the different fibres would take up the dye in very different ways. The main colours are two shades of dark blue - petrol and slate - rather dramatic!. There is a fine white thread which is untouched by the dye. This, together with the gold lurex, offers a good contrast. The last picture shows the same yarn before it was reskeined to show the colour blocks.
I personally see this one as an open lightweight scarf, knitted on fairly large needles, possible combined with another yarn.
