Description

This is stunning! This is a small sliding door. This is one of 4 panels that when put together show a beautiful scene. These were used in a tatami room (tatami is a kind of flooring made from woven rush (igusa) straw) for an upper closet built into the wall. This is very old....at least 50 years. This is a scene from Kinkaku-ji (golden Pavillion) Kyoto . It is hand painted on what appears to be a canvas that is then attached to the door panel. The door pull is black and stunning! This is very old and therefore not perfect. Please look carefully at the pictures. There are stains due to age ...I think it just adds to the beauty! The back has many places where the paper is missing. It measures about 39.5 x 22 x 1.3 cm. Kinkaku-ji (金閣寺, lit. Temple of the Golden Pavilion), officially named Rokuon-ji (鹿苑寺, lit. Deer Garden Temple), is a Zen Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. It is one of the most popular buildings in Japan, attracting a large number of visitors annually.
