These tomato slices are not to be ignored. They are big and very eye-catching. I studied the interior of a tomato and decided to build the flesh in plaster. Layer upon layer was added, then sanded until I had the required thickness and shape. The interior, where the seeds live, was left empty. I then filled this with string.
The back tomato slice is simply painted flat on the board so that this gives the painting great depth.
The work measures 81 x 61 cms and is framed in a wooden frame which is painted white to match the background of the painting so as not to detract from the subject itself. The colors of tomato red on the white background really makes this artwork pop from the wall.
