The bright red of the poppies contrasts with the hand-felted, corn field background of this embroidered pendant.The flowers are embroidered in a variety of cotton threads. Daisies are suggested by French knots, as are distant poppies. Ears of corn, and the poppies in the foreground, are embroidered in ribbons. Naturally died silk and mohair fibres are combined with merino wool, in the felt which forms the background to this pendant.
The pendant is formed over a recycled plastic bottle top. Cream ribbon is stitched around the edge of the pendant and is used to form the hanging loop. A space-dyed, loosely spun wool, in green shades is bound round the edge of the embroidery to frame the design. The pendant is suspended on a length of hand-made cord, made from cotton crochet threads in colours carefully chosen to match the embroidery. The pendant fastens by knotting the cord.
